Wednesday, April 11, 2012 @ 7:00p
at Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, Long Beach, CA
Well before the Spanish settled CA, the Tongva were living in small villages dotting the L.A. basin. Craig Torres, a Tongva cultural educator, will share stories of his ancestors’ material culture and lifestyle. His program will cover how the Tongva used native plants and local fauna for food and housing, and will examine the effects of colonization after 1769. He will also touch on the cultural revival of the Tongva in modern times, sharing personal perspectives as a Tongva descendant.
